Buildings are major electricity users and significant constitutors to greenhouse gas emission. On-site renewables and distributed energy storages offer great opportunities to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings, especially in smart grid applications. To optimize the energy use, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have been adopted for building digitalization. However, the wide adoption of digital technologies and renewable energies brings up challenging issues, including the privacy of users, the computational difficulties, the uncertainties of load, etc. Under this context, the objective of this position is to investigate AIoT-enabled user-centric energy management technologies for buildings in smart grid. The proposed position will involve working on the following tasks:

  • Development and validation of AIoT-enabled data analysis and energy modeling technologies for buildings in smart grid

  • Development and evaluation of AIoT-enabled user-centric energy optimization and control technologies for buildings in smart grid

  • Implementation of proof-of-concept demonstration systems for AIoT-enabled user-centric energy management for buildings in smart grid
